Teamwork

Teamwork

India has 22 official languages, spoken in different parts of the country, including Sanskrit. Cricket is the 23rd language understood by all Indians across the country, from North to South and East to West and in all age groups. The generation passing through 60-70s pretty well remember that there was a time when West Indies used to rule the roost, during the period 1970-1990s, and was the most dreaded team, and their fast bowlers, it is said, used to spew venom in their pace bowling. And just to put that in right perspective, helmets were not used in that era by batsmen or any close-in fielders. Predictably, therefore, WI won the World Cup in 1975 and 1979, and lost to India in the famous 1983 World Cup match.

The era of 1990-2010 belonged to Australia, and they were the undisputed champion team, both in Test Cricket and in ODIs, and were the most fearsome team, especially on Australian pitches. And with their sledging and the way they used to control the field like a pack of wolfs, they used to demoralize the batting team , and shall win the psychological game. True to their form, they went on to win 5 World Cup in the years 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and lately in 2015.

Buoyed by the cricketing sentiments among the cricket playing countries, ICC organised ICC Super Series 2005, which was held in Australia during October 2005. It was played between the then World champions Australia, and a World XI team of leading players selected from all other cricket playing countries. The series consisted of 3 One Day Internationals and one Test match. To understand the strength of World XI, it's enough to mention that their opening pair used to be Chris Gayle (WI) and Sehwag, followed by Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and so on, and had world's most feared bowlers, like Shoaib Akhtar Shaun Pollock, Anil Kumble and Muttiah Murralitharan and so on. Every player who got to represent World XI, was picked up by an international panel of ex-players headed by Sunil Gavaskar, and they were all individually a champion player for their respective countries.

Despite the strength of World XI, both in batting and bowling, Australian Team won all the three ODIs, and Test Match against World XI hands down.

A sports journalist made a comment after Australians re-registered their supremacy in this ICC Super Series 2005.

He said, "A Champion Team defeats Team of Champions, comprehensively."

So Friends, in case you have set your eyes to reach stars, remember that a set of individuals, howsoever talented and brilliant people they may be, in the team alone are not enough unless they play in sync with each other, like a symphony, like an orchestra. The leader has to assign roles depending upon an individual's strengths and weaknesses and harness the best out of their capabilities. Individuals have to shelve off their personal opinions once a Blueprint is agreed and finalized with the team.

Build Teams, and they provide you highways to translate your dreams into reality.

Good Luck!
